Middletown Country Club

Middletown is a compact 80 acres of challenging golf, with rolling hills and large specimen trees that have watched many golfers travel its fairways over time. It has retained its old time feel with tees and greens in close proximity, allowing golfers to walk the course if they choose.

PGA Show massive extravaganza

Written by Bob Oliver on .

Annika Sorenstam may be retired from the LPGA Tour, but that doesn't mean she is sitting on a swing watching birds fly in the air rather than on the golf course.

Sorenstam has a full schedule of things to do, she just isn't playing tour events.

This week she's the centerpiece of the Callaway Golf experience at the 56th PGA Merchandise Show at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

While scaled back somewhat from its heyday --- the economy isn't booming if you had not noticed --- the "Show" still offers more than 1,250 exhibitors spread over miles of space. The biggest names in golf, combined with a wealth of newcomers with new product ideas, will bedazzle the 45,000 pros and industry representatives that grace the forum every year.

For Sorenstam, it will be her chance to talk up the Callaway Big Bertha Diablo Red clubs. A pre-event preview assured even skeptics that the family of woods perform like no other the company has ever constructed. Clearly cutting edge technology is meeting a state of the art design that will delight players of all abilities.

But Callaway isn't the only exhibitor, as Titleist has a huge area,, as does Ping and others. Tour Edge Golf makes its presence known with a wide array of offering that have a perfect price point for the weekend golfer.

The PGA Merchandise Show has come a long, long way from the early days when exhibitors showed their wares out of the trunks of vehicles. Today's Show is a cornucopia of merchandise, activities and new product unveilings.

There area areas for product testing, symposiums, clubfitting areas, fashion shows, workshops, seminars and panels. A number of industry awards are also highlights.

Off site there are product demonstrations and of course golf on some of the area's top courses.

A pre-event look revealed that nutrition will make a splash at the 2009 event, as numerous produces that provide energy while playing will be unveiled. Balance that with scores of new products that are designed to make the game easier and scoring lower and one notes early on that there is something for everyone at the Show.

The editors of will be blogging this week from Orlando. Come back often for snippets of information you might not find on other sites. Tune in often.
