Erica Herr: Pa. State Champion!

Written by Bob Oliver on .

It may be hard to believe, but there has never been a scholastic girls golf champion from Bucks County.

Until  now, that is.

Erica Herr, in a picture of near perfection, placed her well tuned game on cruise control and captured the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Girl's Individual Championship at Heritage Hills Golf Resort.

She played 36 holes as she always does, with consistency, poise and skill. The Council Rock North High School sophomore opened with a 74 then added a second round 76 to hold off Eastern Regional Champion Jackie Rogowicz of Pennsbury by five shots on a one-two Bucks County leaderboard.

Herr + Herr = 2 District Crowns

The Road to a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state championship is a difficult one to traverse. Nothing is easy, the competition is intense, and the pressure builds along the way.

It is truly a case of fairways and greens, a shot at a time. Get to high, and BOOM, you're bitten by a bogey monster or a red-hot competitor. Get too low and you don't realize that others may be in the same boat. It truly is one step at a time.

Still, having said that, there are some rest stops along the way that have a cornucopia of wonderful diversions to observe. Step one, the regular season builds the winning memory. Step two comes the first real test - the PIAA District One Championship. Fail that one, and there is no tomorrow.

She Did It! Erica Herr wins Pa. title

Winning is becoming a habit for Erica Herr.

And the 15-year-old New Hope resident won a major championship with a victory in the prestigious 47th annual Pennsylvania State Women's Golf Association Junior Championship.

Herr did it in style, scoring a runaway 9-shot victory over 54-holes at Saucon Valley Country Club. The incoming Council Rock North High School sophomore carded rounds of 73-71-73 for a 217 total, lapping the field as Longue Vue's Kendall Allen and Talimore's Isabella DiLisio placed second at 226.
