Bucks County Golf

Horses for Courses

Golf is a passion. It can be all encompassing. At www.golfbuckscounty.com we attempt to bring you information on the local golf scene.

But we also have other interests, from United States coins to walking the shore beaches.

One is a newer one, brought on by my dad's passing...his love of horses. Especially thoroughbred race horses.

Dad and I loved going to various tracks over the year. Most recently, he introduced me to Harrah''s Chester just ourside Philadelphia. Dad would spend several days a week better two bucks here and there with newfound friends at the harness racing track.

His favorite driver was The Cat Man, Cat Manzi. When I was growing up it was Herve Fillion and Billy Shoemaker. The Animal Planet show, Jockeys, changed that, as I got to know more about jockeys than you can imagine.

Dad had a knack for picking thoroughbred horses by watching the post parade. No matter what the odds he'd watch the parade and call out his choice. More often than not that choice would finish in the money.

Recently, the Editor decided after months of prodding, to purchase a share of a thoroughbred race horse: Royal Ravine. It's a small share, but the love of this 2-year-old wonderful offspring of Gulch and Lady of Wickam is large nonetheless. So while this is a golf web site, it also is a place where a thoroughbred horse can reside along with golfers.

So while this is a golf site, there will be a few ramblings from the equine world. Hope you enjoy.
